Kirstin will be our guest speaker via ZOOM February 10, 2021. Yummy!Gouda season. It’s when cool weather hits that caramel-like, aged cheese starts to call my name (whisper, really, like a sexy cheese siren). And Gouda is the ultimate cold weather cheese. Think chunks of Gouda and its cheese crystals with red 🍷 or sherry in front of a fireplace. Mmmm hmmm.

I’ll be writing lots about Gouda here in the coming weeks, but to start — what makes something Gouda?

According to EU law, where the Gouda name is registered and has a PDO (like a name patent), only a cheese made in Gouda, the Netherlands has a right to the name. This is where the cheese was born. But since many more cheeses are called Gouda and some of my favorite versions are made here, or even in Ireland, when I say Gouda, I’m talking about a style. It has de-lactosed curds, tune back in to learn more about this later- is sweet, and is meant to taste like the original. That’s it! Dusts hands off.
